PPL 222 (KURI FIELD)

NUPRC carved out the Kuri field (PPL 222) concession following the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round (MFBR 2020). It is Located on the eastern edge of OML 49 within the swamp terrain of the Niger Delta Basin, with CHEVRON as farmor.

Kuri Field covers an area of 78.56km2 and is 25km southwest of Sapele town, Delta State. It was discovered in 1991 through the drilling of the Kuri-01 well to 12692 ft MD. Though the well encountered the intended target sands wet, it encountered hydrocarbon in one shallower sand level named C1.0 sand. The trap structure comprises a fault-dependent closure in the footwall of the major structure building fault. Additional appraisal occurred in 2024 with the drilling of the Kuri-02 well which confirmed the extent of the known hydrocarbon pool and the existence of additional HC-bearing sands within the similar consistent structure. This has resulted in further subsurface interpretation to understand reservoir geology and architecture including hydrocarbon entrapment to better develop sands occurring within this shallow interval. Ongoing activities are geared towards first oil attainment and crude evacuation through the laying of pipelines to a nearby third-party facility or additionally through barging to the nearest export terminal. The target date for onstream of this field set for Q4, 2024.
