Mr. Idowu Odumboni
Chief Operating Officer
Idowu joined Platform Petroleum as the Chief Operating Officer effective September 2024. He has over twenty-five years’ post-graduation experience and has been involved in diverse upstream oil and gas projects.
As the COO, he is responsible for implementing PPL’s strategic objectives and for improving operational efficiency. His focus areas include Egbaoma Flow station (Upstream), EGPCL Gas compression plant, Ase River pipeline transportation (midstream) and the new upstream growth assets (Kuri/Hely Creek). His remit covers Subsurface (Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering), Production operations, Projects and Facilities Engineering.
Prior to joining Platform Petroleum, his last assignment was with Petronas where he led various FDP projects in shallow water offshore Sabah, Malaysia. He served from 2020 – 2023 as the General Manager Asset Development for Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited where he successfully led numerous projects including the Ibigwe marginal field appraisal/infill drilling campaign and takeover of Assa marginal field.
Idowu worked for Addax Petroleum Nigeria (subsidiary of Sinopec) both in the head office in Switzerland and in Lagos. He held different technical and leadership positions in various capacities as Senior Manager Development/Studies, Manager Reservoir Engineering and Head of Petroleum Engineering. He helped in the delivery of various upstream projects in onshore, shallow-water and deep-water in both brown and greenfield developments.
He held different positions in BG Group in various international locations including the United Kingdom, Tunisia and Kazakhstan and supported in the successful bidding for some of the prolific Brazilian Assets. While in BG Kazakhstan, he was involved in the production optimization and re-development of the giant Karachaganak Oil/Gas-Condensate Carbonate field with projects value in excess of $2billion. He contributed to the growth of BG Tunisia through timely delivery of Miskar Integrated Terrace Development and Hasdrubal Development projects.
As part of the Aberdeen team, he supported in the delivery and management of various BG UK oil and gas assets in the North Sea including Armada Hub, Everest/Lomond, Maria, Blake and Varge (the cross-border asset with Norway).
Idowu is a graduate of Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and holds an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, United Kingdom. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He was the Co-Chair of SPE Technical Paper Committee 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 sessions.
